Songs that say 'Adelaide'

Last time I was in Adelaide, while randomly hitting buttons on my sister-in-law's car radio trying to find JJJ, I accidentally spent a few minutes listening to the local MMM outlet.

They had one of those wonderful commercial radio promos which said something like "There are some songs that just say'Adelaide'".

The first snippet they played was from "Khe Sahn". And yes, they did play the bit that goes "The last plane out of Sydney's almost gone."

The next song that just said "Adelaide" was, even more confusingly, "Werewolf of London".

It really was.

I can't remember what the third one was, but if it had been Paul Kelly's "From St Kilda to Kings Cross" or "Heidelberg" by Things of Stone and Wood I would not have been all that surprised.

I suppose Redgum's "One more boring Thursday night in Adelaide" was unlikely to make the list, however geographically accurate it may have been.

I mention this now because I have a job interview with a particular Adelaide-based organisation next week. It turns out writing that 4000 word application was worth it after all.

Oh well, the Hilltop Hoods are from there, so it can't be all bad.

oh no! You don't want to move to Adelaide! I lived in Adelaide for 30 of my 31 years on this planet and I tell you things are getting worse in that town, because they made this stupid law about speed.

You can only do 60 on a major road. Everywhere else is 50. However none of the people seem to be aware of what a major road is, and consequently you end up doing about 50 most of the time. It took me 45 minutes to drive 20kms and that was when I decided it was time to leave.

If you must move there, find somewhere to live very close to either the train or the tram if you're working in the city or even where you'll be working, and put the car in the garage except for weekends is my advice, otherwise you'll end up deading someone with road rage. That's no fun.

good luck with the interview.

4000 word application. wow.

ps do you know anything about body corporate law? or can you refer me somewhere? my mother has a Hell body corporate and she just can't cope with them. i figure she needs to find out her rights and obligations before we try to do anything with them. sounds like there might be embezzelment going on, certainly money moving around and being used inappropriately. ugh.

thx.

Sorrento Moon by Tina Arena was number 4.

I don't think he said he was moving to Adelaide, just that he had an interview with an Adelaide-based company. Was your application "I'm Grouse" x 2000?

Good luck with the interview, kick a goal 'n' all that!

Hi everyone

Thanks for all the advice and good wishes. The interview is next Tuesday so I'll either post something happy about it shortly after that or possibly never mention it again.

Adam, I think you're right (about Sorrento Moon, not how much fun deading someone with road rage might be)

MG, I'm sorry to hear about your mother's hell body corporate. I'd like to help but giving advice over the internet without talking to your mother would be pretty worthless, and having referred to my employers as "Wolfram & Hart" (a fictitious law firm staffed by vampires and demons) I can't give you the actual name of the firm. That would be a tiny bit defamatory.

If your mother needs very basic advice, a free legal service like Fitzroy Legal Service or Monash Oakleigh Legal Service may be able to help.

If you ring the Law Institute of Victoria referral service, they can give you the name of an appropriately qualified lawyer in your local area, and if you get a letter of referral the lawyer will give you the first half hour of advice free. You can also get a referral online by going to their website.

Finally, if there really is embezzlement going on, ring your local police station and ask for the Criminal Investigation Unit.

I hope it works out well for your mum. Good luck.

Adam - depends who you're deading, I guess.. :) I can think of some people I know that deading them would be considered not only fun but a public service.. ;)

Well that is one of the *good* things about Adelaide. You want to move there if you work in retail because they do have excellent shopping hours as far as they're closed much of the time. ;) Here in NSW there is only one day a year that the store I work in is closed. :(

Meva

Welcome to my little blog. How did your interview go? What was it for? Other questions like that.

Melbster
I don't think anyone would notice these spelling errors if you didn't point them out.

Snoskred
I don't work in retail but then again I don't shop much so it all evens out.

Meva

I did read your blog. I did not quite weep but I did empathise. A lot.

Details can be found in the comments section of Meva's blog. Everyone should go there and read all about it.*

*Because the blog is good. Not because I left comments on it.
