God rest you merry gentlefolk

I have been trying for several days now to think of something profound or even interesting to say about Christmas. It hass't worked.

I have spent the entire month of December running around, doing stuff, and being just too tired to feel the sense of happiness and peace that I normally associate with this time of year.

So, once my older son and wife are finally awake, we’re going to open presents, and then go to church, and then spend the afternoon with my parents, my sisters and my nieces. We’re going to laugh a lot, and eat a lot, and annoy my brother in law with more bad puns, and I’m going to think about how much I wish that my brother and his wife and daughter could be here in Melbourne instead of somewhere in the remoter bits of Western Australia.

There will be a most pleasant absence of giraffes, seamonkeys and Beverly Hills Pimps. Instead, I am going to spend today enjoying all the things that make my life a very happy one.

And I hope and pray that you all have a truly awesome day too.

Utter happiness and joy to you and yours, INC. I wish for you all the good things that the world can offer (which I suspect you already have, lucky boy).

xx

Yes!! We managed to dupe the kids again.

Usually we don't tell them what day Christmas is and they're too young to understand so they don't wake us up at crack of dawn on the day! But this year the six year old can read a calendar so my husband simply told them that santa comes on the night between the 25-26th. So they were surprised when he came early cos they'd been extra good!

Hope you had a good one. I didn't alas get drunk and thus the tedious hours with extended family went by too slowly.

Thanks! You're right, of course, I do already have all the things that matter. I don't have a yacht, but I get terrible seasickness and I don't know how to sail so that is not really a big concern.

I hope you are having a wonderful holiday time.

Wow! Most people probably think that duping young children is not that hard. Those of us who have them know it's pretty well impossible. Well done.

I didn't get drunk either (partly because I was at my parents' house, mostly because I was driving home shortly after dinner) but is was a reasonably pleasant day, apart from my sister continuing to get cross about unkind things I allegedly did to her 23 years ago.

I'm not sure what the appropriate response to that should have been, but "ARE YOU HIGH RIGHT NOW, YOUNG LADY" probably wasn't it.

Best wishes for a very happy New Year.

What, no pimps and hos? No sea monkeys? That just doesn't sound like Christmas to me - nor to V. Ice.

Different strokes, different folks etc.

Hi and welcome and thanks for travelling all the way from London to visit my little blog.

Yes, I really did go to church on Christmas Day. That's not entirely unusual, with Christmas being the one time of year that one has any hope of getting an Australian into a church.

It's more unusual, particularly in the world of blogging, to turn up to church every week. But I do.

And a very happy New Year to you all.

good on you inc. happy new year to you and your readers. isn't it hot? soon to cool down i hope.

our sea monkeys didn't work. so my childhood dream of having seamonkeys with crowns on swimming around a tank just like on the back of the richie rich comics is still unrealised. my other childhood dream of eating a twinkie, which also featured in those comics, DID however come true. in hawaii of all places after trawling new york supermarkets for the things. ultimately unsatisfying, like the seamonkeys. sometimes dreams should stay just that.

dare to dream of seamonkeys and twinkies, good people.

no, i'm not drunk, how dare you even think that.

I would never suggest that you were drunk. I only do that to close family members on Christmas Day (or, you know, people who actually are drunk).

"dare to dream of seamonkeys and twinkies, good people" will be:

1. The title of my next post
2. The name of my next band
3. My 'status' on Facebook; and
4. Something I say in a business meeting at least once this year.
