Tickled by emo

This blogging hiatus is scheduled to last a few more days, or until the final entry in our little getting to know you game arrives, but I couldn't resist taking a few moments to give a shout out to my fabulous 16 year old niece.

As I wandered through my loungeroom a couple of days ago, I caught a snatch of one side of a phone conversation that went something like this:

"Honey Bear? Oh yeah, she was emoing because her wireless broadband wasn't working, but it's okay now".

Yes, really.

"She was emoing".

Quite seriously.

Without a trace of irony.

"Emoing"

That's right, there really is someone in the world who actually talks like that.

And I'm related to her.

Excellent.

i'm a big fan of making new-english, and creating verbs and the like out of nouns and vice versa.

this has always been the way of teenagers and young people.

[nods like wise sage]

[pats inc on shoulder consolingly]

I'm also a fan of New English. In the olden days I used to be dead-set against, now it's my own personal joke to see how many words I can make up and still be completely understood. The challenge for you young INC, is to now use the word 'emoing' in a court of tennis/law.

I love the fact that you are now emoing over the use of the verb 'to emo'.

heh. Progress. It's a killa.

PS - was she? Emoing I mean?

I'm just not sure that you can make a verb out of something that wasn't really a noun in the first place.

Having said that, I got away with telling the same niece that Snow Patrol were post-emo. Well, I would have if Honey Bear hadn't pointed out that I was clearly just makin' stuff up now.

Thanks for the three things. Posting any minute.

I have noticed this. It is entirely due to your good work that I cannot go near a shopping centre without wanting to yell "Let's eat some foodcourt".

I'm not emoing (much), I just thought it was worth a brief comment.

Honey Bear would be better described as 'mildly miffed' rather than actually emoing. It is fortunate that she has the mad internet restoring skills.

I wish I could take credit for "Let's eat some foodcourt", but it's from a fairly old post on Adam's blog. I'm glad I could share it with just one more blogger

Also, thanks for stopping by.

Hi, I don't think we've met before, but thanks for the visit and I'm glad that something or other in this post entertained you.

For the record, my niece found this post and laughed very hard for about five minutes.

It's just funny when new words can be so...apt.

I like how you write

Life is a highway?

Adios.
